The Project

Maria Eugènia Huguet is the creator and owner of Mas Generós together with her brothers Pepe and Emili, with whom she shares other hotels in Barcelona. The fact that Mas Generós is a family-run hotel adds a unique, increasingly distinguishing value that largely explains why it is a project with a soul. Their way of understanding hospitality has evolved into a lifestyle based on the desire to welcome people, and this personal energy is conveyed in every single detail of the project.

Mas Generós, More Than a House

Mas Generós is A Garden of One’s Own, playing on the title of one of the authors Eugènia admires most—to the point of dedicating a room to her—Virginia Woolf. This is a small sample of how the project reflects her personality, preferences, and artistic references, as well as her sensibility for beauty, craftsmanship, and respect for what is essential, such as sustainability. Eugènia’s unique way of understanding the world stems from her childhood, when she established a deep connection with nature, the kitchen garden, and flowers, especially the old roses that her mother, Rosario, cultivated with love.

More intuitively than consciously, Mas Generós is the tangible realization of her life’s journey. It is a project that has continually gained meaning by integrating her interests—mainly nature and culture, and especially literature, as she studied and taught Hispanic Philology for many years.

Driven by her constant desire to learn, Eugènia has continuously embraced other disciplines such as furniture restoration, the Greek language, botany, and landscape design, making Mas Generós their meeting point.

Eugènia applies her knowledge of flowers here, from plant selection to garden care. She does it herself out of passion, for the healing effects of being in touch with the earth, and because of a pact she says she made with the genius loci when the garden was an abandoned plot of land.

The commitment she made was to create a space that nurtures, transforms, and generates experiences, while regenerating the land and leaving a positive footprint. That is why Eugènia does not merely lead the project—she brings it to life, and it shows whenever she is in the house or tending to the garden.
