A GARDEN WITH A HOTEL
Mas Generós is a new concept in hotels. Most hotels have a garden, but in our case it’s the other way around: it’s the garden that has a hotel and restaurant. That’s because the project’s origin lies in the garden, and so does its reason for being. It’s a dream come true, to be able to enjoy nature and reconnect with it in a healing space that brings us wellbeing and joy of living. A longing sustained over time, with a very clear destination: the Empordà described by Josep Pla and turned into a novel by Mercè Rodoreda.

The hotel is the result of this determined will to create, together with nature, a naturalistic garden that is integrated with and respectful of the Empordà landscape. An eco-friendly boutique hotel inspired by the planet’s Blue Zones, where the conditions exist that allow people to live longer than average and with quality of life. That’s why Mas Generós is much more than a rural hotel to spend the night: it’s an ongoing proposal for a relaxed life, natural physical activity, social relationships and the Mediterranean diet. And we go further still, offering garden-to-table cuisine with organic vegetables grown in our own gardens and dishes that include flowers from the garden. We follow the recipes of our culinary director, Iolanda Bustos, who brings to the project her personality, wisdom, creativity and knowledge of biodynamics.
Mas Generós is a small, sustainable rural hotel located in a unique setting in the Baix Empordà, Fonteta. An ideal place for a getaway, to enjoy nature and the outdoors, with a slow pace and a gentle calm that renews us.

The eroded mountains of the Montgrí massif, the deep green of the evergreen trees, cork oaks and pines on the foothills of the Gavarres, and the farming plain, framed by the vegetation of the lower Ter river, all combine to form a great living bowl, creating a landscape of great beauty.

Typical cuisine of the Empordà
Local breakfasts
Breakfast buffet, in the garden or indoors while listening to classical music, is one of the most exciting moments for Mas Generós guests. It’s also a chance to try the eggs from our own hens and the wildflower honey from our bees, jams and lemon curd made with fruit from the garden, perfect with the essential local recuit cheese from Fonteta. Besides seasonal fruit and other local produce, we serve cakes made by our cooks — with vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options — and herbal teas from the aromatic herb garden we pick every morning.

We offer a programme of activities tailored to our guests, including garden yoga, botanical walks, musical evenings, exhibitions and book presentations.
Weddings and celebrations
Mas Generós is a unique space for celebrating private events, such as weddings, anniversaries, small corporate gatherings, book presentations, yoga retreats, etc. The variety of spaces, both indoors and outdoors in the garden, along with its versatility and logistics, will surprise you.
Musical dates
Music is inseparable from the Mas Generós project. The collector's piano on the first floor, near the library, is a real statement of intent and an invitation to play. It is also the star of the concerts we host throughout the year and of the Schubertíada, where tradition has it that music is played in the garden.
Cultural activities
Culture, especially art and literature, are two constants of our project. It could not be otherwise, being located in a region with as much history, tradition, art, craftsmanship, music and literature as the Empordà. Besides exhibitions and presentations, we host dinners with celebrated guests.
Courses and workshops
At Mas Generós we love to learn, which is why we organize courses and workshops related to the four seasons. In addition, our artist or creator in residence, in our wooden cabin within the Secret Garden, teaches courses on their specialist subject for our guests and Friends of Mas Generós.
